Story: RE: OPINION: Ragnar Is a Disgrace to the Wizarding Community, but He Was Right by Frederico the Frozen
Published in: Hell Itself [web]
Length: 1,000 words
Brief synopsis:

(thanks to [a random brazillian website] for this image)
How the story came to be: I wrote this for the 2024 Weekend Warrior flash contest on Codex. It was the, uh, week SBF’s trial wrapped up.
Okay, so, for people who have no idea who that is, he’s the guy who made the crpyto exchange that was a huge scam. “Aren’t they all?” you’re saying. Well, yes, but FTX was buying Super Bowl ads and paying big celebs to be spokespeople. So this imploding caught a lot of attention (along with things like the polycule and the “sultry wood nymph” and look there’s a lot it’s a real rabbit hole).
I set this in the same “world” as my “Kobold Twitter” story (there’s an easter egg as such in this piece lol), and I do eventually want to write a whole novel about the similarities between silicon valley bs and magical bs. This story was fun to write, figuring out how decentralized ledgers could work in a world without computers. And also what the “hero worship” some have for founders would look like.
This is either a piece you immediately get what it is I’m satirizing or you’re gonna be totally lost. I did not share a link to it on LinkedIn because I’m sure there’s people who still think this shit is a good idea and would get offended by the story lol
PUBLISHING THE STORY
Relative Confidence Level Before Submitting: Like a 3. There’s not really a “plot” per se, it’s a humor piece (and I always have a hard time selling humor), and the narrow band of people who would “get” this would only decrease as time goes on (which it did!)
Rejections before finding a home: 44 lol
The eventual home: Hell Itself. I think it’s quite a fitting home! But I’m glad someone liked it
