Brief synopsis:
How the story came to be: Flights of Foundry 2024 had a flash fiction challenge! And one of the prompts was to write a story in the form of an email.
This is a world/setting I’ve put a LOT of thought into (and do want to release more/longer stuff in), so I had to have in just enough stuff that people can figure out what’s going on without huge lore dumps (since that’s not really possible with flash!).
Also I currently have an “email job,” so I write a lot of emails. There’s a fine art to saying things while not actually saying it, the skirting around the ugly truth of a situation and leveraging your position to keep opposition from calling you out. It’s an…interesting writing challenge. I think it’s helped my flash skills, and flash has helped my email skills, so here’s a story that’s more obviously combining both!
